Trip report #2: Ministry of Education, Parliament, Innovation Norway

Good afternoon. We had another very full day of meetings yesterday. Highlights from each conversation are listed below, along with some links to each organization.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION & RESEARCH
Ms. Dybesland, Mr. Sørgaard, Ms.Skålid, and Ms. Grobakken

  • The Ministry’s interest in balanced student mobility; research in science/technology, health, energy, and social science; joint degree programs
  • The opportunity to use peace-making as a route to engage young people, businesses, and institutions in education, business development, and research
  • The NPPF’s deep penetration into audiences with deep connections to Norway
  • Potentially connecting with the Peace Research Institute in Oslo
  • Using FAFO’s work to underscore the importance of early and long behind-the-scenes peace building
  • Studying businesses such as Telenor, who have operated in difficult and strife-ridden areas

  • The need to engage Norwegian businesses more broadly than what we had originally considered

INNOVATION NORWAY (a Norwegian business development initiative)

  • The role NPPF could play in re-positioning the Midwest in Norway’s consciousness
  • The potential for business sponsorship of the NPPF if undertaken with intention and care

  • Consider “Money Talks” as a topic appropriate for the NPPF
